Wielding two decades of experience in the healthcare industry, Deborah C. Davidson has excelled since 2022 as senior complex health program manager for the Federal Correctional Complex-Coleman within the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Among her myriad responsibilities, she tracks the healthcare for approximately 7,000 inmates; manages up to 150 healthcare staff credential files; performs vaccinations, infection surveillance, and tuberculin skin testing; audits charts for proper healthcare management and infectious disease treatment; and reports findings to the State of Florida and appropriate public health authorities.
Proud to serve her country and provide services in an area most choose not to, Ms. Davidson—with a bachelor’s in nursing from the State University of New York—launched her career as a staff nurse with the Federal Medical Center in 2003. Here, she took care of inmates and found that there was a great need for correctional healthcare—not many people wanted to devote themselves to work in such an environment. However, she enjoyed the opportunity to give back and help the underserved. She joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 2007, working as a clinical nurse for five years before advancing to senior clinical nurse and program management officer for its Federal Detention Center. She was also active as a clinical nurse and program management officer within the Federal Correctional Complex, Coleman from 2015 to 2022.
Outside of her primary roles, Ms. Davidson has accrued experience as a travel nurse across New York and North Carolina, even holding a position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a further testament to her excellence in the field, she has garnered numerous accolades from the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service, including a Hazardous Duty Award, an Outstanding Unit Citation, a Crisis Response Service Award, a Presidential Unit Citation, a Humanitarian Service Medal, and an Achievement Medal, among others. She’s a longtime member of both the Commissioned Officers Association and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.
Reflecting on her career, Ms. Davidson regards her most notable achievement to be earning a master’s degree in public health from the University of Massachusetts in 2019 while working her full-time job. Looking ahead, she’s determined to finish her career with the Bureau of Prisons and continue making an impact in the field.
